Are you looking for a Volkswagen Jetta?

Q: 2001 Volkswagen Jetta Owners please help me?
I own a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg edition. Its one of the nicest cars I’ve ever driven. However today the engine malfunctioned and cut off after I switched to 2nd gear and it wouldnt start again. Yes I know how to drive stick and every time I change gears I make sure I press the clutch all the way to the bottom. But today right before the engine cut off there was this weird and nasty grinding sound, I imagine it was the timing chain. the car is used and I know Jetta’s need their timing chain changed every 65000 miles before a serious malfunction.I’ve only had it for one day But this is the first time it has happened to me since its the first Jetta I’ve ever owned and Im worried about the car, . Was the sound I heard before the car cutted off the timing chain snapping or something else ?

A: It sound like a pretty serious problem and you should definitely go to either a VW Dealership or some car shop and have them check it out. Usually they can do it for free.

Q: What is so special about a volkswagen jetta 1.8t wolfsburg edition than a regular jetta?
I got one at this auction and people are saying its a good edition, but it looks like any other jetta, but with a turbo engine that eats up lots of gas. Is there anything special with wolfsburg edition or is it just the name that makes you look exciting.

A: Your Wolfsburg edition Jetta is essentially a Jetta with a GTI 1.8T 4cylinder engine, which is exactly what you have. It also should come with different wheels and an almost impossible to notice ground effects kit.

Q: How do I change the headlights on my 1999 Volkswagen Jetta?
I got new headlight assemblies for Christmas for my 1999 Jetta, and I am looking for an online car manual which will give instructions on how to put them on my car, but with no success. Does anyone know if I need to remove the entire bumper just in order to put the new assemblies in? Thanks!

A: if you already have the parts i recomend you go buy a HAYNES booklet, it tells you EVERYTHING about your car and how to fix it, it is based on a COMPLETE take apart AND rebuild of your car, the book cost about $10-$17 but its well worth it.

Q: how many oxygen sensors are there in a 1998 volkswagen jetta?
my check engine light went on because mine are getting old and now my gas mileage is suffering. i hear that there are between 1 and 4 in any particular car. how many are in my 98 jetta? also, are they easy to find?

A: go to autozone.com and type in your make model and engine size and thy wiil give you the info on the sencors and where they are on the car

Q: volkswagen jetta 97 overheats how to change thermostat?
My volkswagen Jetta 1997 overheats and fan does not come on. I want to change the thermostat. Is it hard. Where do find it under the hood? Is it hard to do this? Can I get a manual on the internet that shows me how? Thanks

A: I would suggest that before you start looking ar replacing the thermostat, that you try and isolate the problem.
a. You mention the fan does not come on. – Have you checked the fuse for the fan.

b. Have you checked if the fan motor is functional. – This is easily done by applying 12 v from the battery directly onto the fan motor leads. (you do not have to worry about which is positive or negative for this test.)

c. Are you sure that the sensor unit to switch on the fans is working. Generally found at bottom of radiator. I while back I was puzzled with exactly the same problem. Changed thermostat, checked if fans worked by supplying power directly to them, only to discover it was the sensor unit not working. Did not switch on as temperature rose.

After checking the above three items I would then do the following checks

1. Is V- belt driving pump not loose and slipping.

2. Check in vicinity of pump if there are a few drips of coolant dripping under the pump it is likely the pump but remember the coolant may not make it to the ground.

for following tests engine must be warm – so make sure the top radiator hose gets warm after 5 minutes

3. Pump impeller that may have sheared. To check if pump is operating, take of radiator cap and run car for a while, you should be able to see water circulating (movement of water (will not occur while engine is cold as thermostat stops flow). – if you can move the throttle with you hand under the hood, cables running to a connector on springs when you hit the throttle is should suck the fluid down with the radiator cap off.

4. Thermostat not opening – as above, but no indication of water movement even when engine is hot

Note sometimes difficult to distinguish between last two.

Q: What could be problem with starting on Volkswagen Jetta?
My daughter has 2004 VW Jetta. Recently she called to say that it would not crank. We just put a new battery in it last year, so we took the car to Autozone. They tested and said that battery and alternator both appear to be good. We assumed that maybe she had not shut a door all the way and the light had drained the battery. However, she called yesterday to say she had to have car jumped off again for same thing. What else should we check now?

A: Do a total revision to the car. i’m not a mechanic so i can not help you but, do you know, every car is a different car

Q: Is the Volkswagen Jetta an overall dependable car?
I am a community college student about to transfer to a university and I need a dependable car for driving the freeway and long distances during the week. I really like how the Jetta looks and feels, but I am not so sure about its reliability. Any thoughts?

A: I am also in college and currently commuting. I have a vw Jetta 2000 TDI, I find it very dependable and being a diesel, it is great on mileage. Mine has almost 300,000k on it and is still running perfectly. Although there have been a few recalls for small electical problems for the earlier models, but those were covered by warranty. No car is perfect, but personally I think its great for freeways and long distances.

Q: Where can I order miscellaneous Volkswagen Jetta car parts?
On my 2005 VW Jetta, one of the two small plastic grills located on the front underneath the bumper fell off sometime while in transit. I’m trying to find a website that I could order this part from. Anyone know of one? Also, does anyone know the name of this part? Thanks.

A: germanautoparts.com
ecstuning.com
mjmautohaus.com

Q: Which gas should I use for my volkswagen Jetta? regular or unleaded?
I currently own a Volkswagen jetta(2007) and I am having a hard time deciding whether I should put regular gas or Supreme unleaded gas(most expensive) for my car. Any advice/help would be appreciated. Thanks

A: Regular unleaded gas will work fine.

Q: How much is the cost of front shocks for a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta?
I was thinking about buying a 2002 Jetta, however, they said it will need front shocks…
Around how much would that be? Is it worth buying to have to do that repair?

A: Good ones are about 120.00 a piece…Yes…

Q: What problems have you had with the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta and what are some pros about the car?
I was wondering what are some problems you have had with the 2006 jetta and what are some pros about the car. Is it true that the transmisson sucks on this car? I was considering getting one in the future but i am not sure now. Please Help!

A: I have an ‘06 Jetta 2.5. I *love* my car! There is nothing wrong with the transmission thus far (28000 miles).
At 20000 miles both coolling fans seized and were replaced. The car was still under warranty at the time. I’m not sure if that is a common problem, or exactly what it would have cost if I had to pay out of pocket.
This is my 3rd Jetta in 15 years. I’ll probably buy another one after this. It’s a great little car.

Q: What problems have you experienced with a knocking sound from the engine of a 1998 volkswagen jetta glx vr6?
When I start up my jetta there will be a slight knock coming from my engine. If I put it in park and rev it up this causes the knock to go away. If I apply pressure on it by putting the car into drive it knocks at low speeds. When I get off the trottle it gets louder. 89,000 miles second owner.

A: I answered your other question too. Take a look at the audio and video that I posted. After reading your description here, it sounds like you may have a spun rod bearing. You could pull the oil pan and see if there are any metal flakes in the oil, most of mine were caught in the oil filter. While you have that off, wiggle the rod caps. If there is any play in them, there is a good chance that’s what happened.
Top end noises have a higher pitch sound than bottom end noises. Can you get some audio or video of it?

For shadow… these have hydraulic lifters.

Q: Does Volkswagen Jetta 01 ’s parts are in general expensive ?
Does Volkswagen Jetta 01 ’s parts are in general expensive ?
or compare to Honda accords ?

A: European vehicles tend to have the most expensive replacement parts; the issues behind this are simply the number of vehicles (turnover rate of parts) and currency issues.

A few years ago the Euro was trading at 85 cents to the USA Dollar; today it closed at $1.44 to the USA Dollar, an increase of about 80% and its been as high as $1.50 for a Euro. By contrast, the Japanese Yen has been fairly steady against the dollar for a number of years; trading somewhere in the range of 7-10% gain in the dollar over the same time period.

Last year, the best selling Japanese vehicle, a Toyota Camry outsold VW, Audi, Porshe and Saab combined and were talking only one model of Japanese vehicle!!! So, simple logic would tell you that there are simply more potential sales of parts, than for a vehicle that sells a lot less…
And one must remember that VW has had a number of ups and down over the past many years; I go back with VW long enough to remember that there was a time when VW – Audi nearly pulled out of the North American market all together…

Although many parts in a VW are manufactured in South America (i.e., Mexico, Chile, and Brazil), they still don’t have enough parts turnover to have lower prices. If you go to any parts store, you’ll find that a Toyota-Honda part in general is less expensive than a similiar VW part and that more places are likely to have that part in stock.

In its home base of Europe, VW sells many more vehicles (and related makes: Skoda, Seat and of course, Audi) and over a larger base than in the North American market, thus parts are less expensive and more easily found than here in the USA.

Anyway, that’s how I see it based upon my 30 years in dealership automotive service departments; 25 years on/off in Volkswagen dealership service departments.

Q: Where is the best place to find Volkswagen Jetta Grilles?
I have a 2001 black VW jetta- I want an aftermarket grille, good price, without the VW emblem/space for the VW emblem. I’ve been google-ing for a while and I just cant find what I want, the only grilles I can find are the ones with the emblem. Anyone know of a good website where I can order one?

A: Try www.ecstuning.com

You should be able to get one there.
